Allah

The One God

The proper and exclusive name of the Creator, Lord of all existence. This name encompasses all divine attributes and is unique to Allah, being used for no other being.

Ar-Rahman

The Most Gracious

The One whose mercy encompasses all creation in this world, believers and disbelievers alike. This name indicates the vast, all-encompassing mercy of Allah.

Ar-Rahim

The Most Merciful

The One whose special mercy is reserved for the believers in the Hereafter. This mercy is specific and directed towards those who believe and do righteous deeds.

Al-Malik

The Sovereign

The absolute Owner and Ruler of all creation, whose dominion is complete and unchallenged. He rules without need of any minister or assistant.

الْقُدُّوسُ

Al-Quddus

The Most Pure

The One who is utterly free and far removed from every imperfection, deficiency, and impurity. He is wholly pure and perfect in every aspect.

السَّلَامُ

As-Salam

The Source of Peace

The One who is free from all faults and imperfections, and who grants peace and safety to His creation. His name is greeted in Paradise: "Peace!" is the word from a Merciful Lord.

الْمُؤْمِنُ

Al-Mu'min

The Granter of Security

The One who grants security and safety to His creation, and who has affirmed the truth of His Oneness. He is the source of all true security and faith.

الْمُهَيْمِنُ

Al-Muhaymin

The Guardian

The One who watches over and protects all of His creation, who has complete knowledge and oversight of everything. He is the ultimate Protector and Overseer.

الْعَزِيزُ

Al-'Aziz

The Almighty

The One who is absolutely invincible and unconquerable, whose power no one can resist. He is mighty in power, and none can overcome Him.

الْجَبَّارُ

Al-Jabbar

The Compeller

The One who compels and restores all things to their right order. He sets right what is broken and reforms what is corrupt, and His will cannot be resisted.

الْمُتَكَبِّرُ

Al-Mutakabbir

The Supreme

The One who possesses all greatness and grandeur exclusively; all true greatness belongs to Him alone. Pride is His cloak and greatness is His garment, as stated in the hadith qudsi.

الْخَالِقُ

Al-Khaliq

The Creator

The One who creates from nothing, who brings all things into existence having determined their nature and measured them precisely. He creates without any precedent or model.

الْبَارِئُ

Al-Bari'

The Originator

The One who creates things and distinguishes them from one another, creating each creature with its own distinct characteristics and qualities.

الْمُصَوِّرُ

Al-Musawwir

The Fashioner

The One who gives each created thing its own unique form and appearance. He shapes and fashions every creature exactly as He wills.

الْغَفَّارُ

Al-Ghaffar

The Repeatedly Forgiving

The One who forgives sins repeatedly and continually. No matter how many times a servant sins and repents, Allah forgives again and again. The word "Ghaffar" indicates constant and repeated forgiveness.

الْقَهَّارُ

Al-Qahhar

The Subduer

The One who has absolute dominion over all things and all creation, subduing everything to His will. Every mighty and powerful thing is utterly subdued before Him.

Al-Wahhab

The Bestower of Gifts

The One who gives abundantly and freely without expecting anything in return. He bestows His gifts out of generosity alone, not because of any merit on the part of the recipient.

الرَّزَّاقُ

Ar-Razzaq

The Provider

The One who provides sustenance for all of creation. He is the original source of all provisions; every morsel of food and every blessing ultimately comes from Him.

Al-Fattah

The Opener

The One who opens the doors of mercy, provision, and victory for His servants. He resolves difficulties and matters that are closed to human understanding.

الْعَلِيمُ

Al-'Alim

The All-Knowing

The One whose knowledge is perfect and encompasses all things: the seen and unseen, the past, present, and future, the innermost thoughts of hearts, and every atom in existence.

الْقَابِضُ

Al-Qabid

The Withholder

The One who withholds and constricts as He wills, whether provision, souls, or anything else. This is exercised according to His infinite wisdom, never arbitrarily.

الْبَاسِطُ

Al-Basit

The Extender

The One who extends and expands, giving abundantly as He wills. He expands provision, mercy, and all goodness for His creation.

الْخَافِضُ

Al-Khafid

The Humiliator

The One who lowers and humbles those who are proud and arrogant, and those who oppose the truth. He brings down whatever He wills according to His perfect wisdom.

الرَّافِعُ

Ar-Rafi'

The Exalter

The One who elevates and raises whoever He wills: the righteous, the believers, and the obedient. He elevates people in status, rank, and honour.

الْمُعِزُّ

Al-Mu'izz

The Bestower of Honour

The One who grants honour and dignity to those He wills. True honour comes from Allah alone, and He bestows it upon the obedient and righteous.

الْمُذِلُّ

Al-Mudhill

The Humbler

The One who disgraces and humbles those He wills, such as the arrogant, the oppressors, and the enemies of truth. Humiliation from Allah is the ultimate humiliation.

السَّمِيعُ

As-Sami'

The All-Hearing

The One who hears all sounds and voices, no matter how soft or distant. He hears every whisper, every prayer, every complaint, and every thought that is expressed.

الْبَصِيرُ

Al-Basir

The All-Seeing

The One who sees all things, no matter how small or hidden. No action escapes His sight; He sees what is in the depths of the seas and in the darkest of nights.

الْحَكَمُ

Al-Hakam

The Judge

The One who judges between His creation with complete justice and perfect knowledge. His judgement is final and cannot be overturned.

الْعَدْلُ

Al-'Adl

The Perfectly Just

The One who is perfectly and absolutely just in all His actions and decrees. He never wrongs anyone; He gives every right its due.

اللَّطِيفُ

Al-Latif

The Subtle

The One who is gentle, subtle, and kind with His servants, and whose knowledge reaches the finest and most hidden details of all things. He reaches His servants through subtle and gentle means they may not perceive.

الْخَبِيرُ

Al-Khabir

The All-Aware

The One who is completely and perfectly aware of all things, the external and internal, the apparent and the hidden. He has full knowledge of every detail.

الْحَلِيمُ

Al-Halim

The Forbearing

The One who does not hasten to punish despite witnessing sin and disobedience. He is patient with His creation and delays punishment, giving time for repentance.

الْعَظِيمُ

Al-'Azim

The Magnificent

The One who is immeasurably great; whose greatness is beyond all comprehension or description. Every form of true greatness belongs exclusively to Him.

الْغَفُورُ

Al-Ghafur

The All-Forgiving

The One who forgives all sins, no matter how great or how many, for those who sincerely repent and seek His forgiveness. The door of His forgiveness is never closed.

الشَّكُورُ

Ash-Shakur

The Appreciative

The One who acknowledges and rewards the good deeds of His servants abundantly, rewarding even the smallest act of goodness manifold.

الْعَلِيُّ

Al-'Ali

The Most High

The One who is the Most High, above all things in His essence, attributes, and power. He is exalted above all creation, above all that anyone can imagine.

الْكَبِيرُ

Al-Kabir

The Most Great

The One who is the Greatest; His greatness is beyond any measurement or comparison. All greatness belongs to Him and everything else is diminished beside His greatness.

الْحَفِيظُ

Al-Hafiz

The Preserver

The One who preserves and protects all things. He maintains the heavens and earth and everything in them, and He preserves the deeds of His servants to be accounted for.

الْمُقِيتُ

Al-Muqit

The Nourisher

The One who provides and sustains all creatures with what they need for their bodies and spirits. He nourishes and provides the right sustenance for each creature.

الْحَسِيبُ

Al-Hasib

The Reckoner

The One who takes account of all deeds and who suffices His servants. He knows every detail of every act and will bring full reckoning on the Day of Judgement.

الْجَلِيلُ

Al-Jalil

The Majestic

The One who possesses absolute majesty: perfect power, knowledge, glory, and transcendence. His majesty is absolute and beyond comparison.

الْكَرِيمُ

Al-Karim

The Most Generous

The One who is supremely generous and noble: He gives without being asked, He forgives without being begged, and He is never diminished by His giving.

الرَّقِيبُ

Ar-Raqib

The Watchful

The One who observes and watches all things at all times, from whom nothing is hidden. He is the constant observer of all hearts, words, and deeds.

الْمُجِيبُ

Al-Mujib

The Responsive

The One who answers all prayers and supplications, who responds to all who call upon Him. He says: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you."

46Surah al-A'raf (7:156)

الْوَاسِعُ

Al-Wasi'

The All-Encompassing

The One whose mercy, knowledge, and generosity are boundless and all-encompassing. His mercy encompasses all things: 'And My mercy encompasses all things.'

Al-Hakim

The All-Wise

The One who is perfectly wise in all His actions, judgements, and decrees. His wisdom is absolute; everything He does is exactly right and appropriate, even when human understanding cannot comprehend it.

الْوَدُودُ

Al-Wadud

The Most Loving

The One who loves His believing servants with a deep and perfect love, and who is loved by them. He is not merely One who is loved; He is One who loves.

الْمَجِيدُ

Al-Majid

The Glorious

The One who is glorious in His essence, attributes, and actions. His glory is of the highest degree: perfect beauty combined with absolute perfection.

الْبَاعِثُ

Al-Ba'ith

The Resurrector

The One who will resurrect all of creation on the Day of Judgement from their graves for the final reckoning. He gives life back after death.

الشَّهِيدُ

Ash-Shahid

The Witness

The One who witnesses all things and is present and aware of everything. No secret is hidden from Him; He is witness to all that happens in the heavens and the earth.

الْحَقُّ

Al-Haqq

The Truth

The One who is the ultimate and absolute Truth: His existence is true, His attributes are true, His words are true, His promise is true, and meeting Him is true.

الْوَكِيلُ

Al-Wakil

The Trustee

The One who is the ultimate trustee and disposer of all affairs. Those who place their complete trust in Him will find Him the best of all trustees.

الْقَوِيُّ

Al-Qawiyy

The All-Strong

The One whose strength is perfect and absolute. He is never weakened by anything and His strength never diminishes.

55

الْمَتِينُ

Al-Matin

The Firm

The One who possesses absolute firmness and strength. His power cannot be weakened by any force or number.

56

الْوَلِيُّ

Al-Waliyy

The Protecting Friend

The One who is the guardian, ally, and protecting friend of His righteous servants. He takes care of their affairs in this world and the next.

57

الْحَمِيدُ

Al-Hamid

The All-Praiseworthy

The One who is deserving of all praise in the most perfect and complete manner. All praise belongs to Him whether or not people acknowledge it.

الْمُحْصِي

Al-Muhsi

The Enumerator

The One who has exact count and knowledge of everything. Not a leaf falls without His knowledge; He counts every atom and every act.

59

الْمُبْدِئُ

Al-Mubdi'

The Originator

The One who begins the creation of all things without any preceding example or model. He creates ex nihilo - from nothing.

60

الْمُعِيدُ

Al-Mu'id

The Restorer

The One who brings creation back after it has ceased. He will restore all to life on the Day of Resurrection.

الْمُحْيِي

Al-Muhyi

The Giver of Life

The One who gives life to everything that lives, both in the first creation and in the resurrection.

62

الْمُمِيتُ

Al-Mumit

The Causer of Death

The One who brings about death at the appointed time. Death is entirely in His hands; no soul can die except by His leave.

63

الْحَيُّ

Al-Hayy

The Ever-Living

The One who is absolutely and eternally alive, with a perfect and complete life that had no beginning and will have no end. His life is unlike the life of any created thing.

الْقَيُّومُ

Al-Qayyum

The Self-Sustaining

The One who exists by Himself, needing nothing, while sustaining and maintaining all of creation. All existence depends on Him; He depends on nothing.

Al-Wajid

The Finder

The One who finds what He wills when He wills, for nothing is difficult or lost to Him. He perceives everything and lacks nothing.

Al-Majid

The Illustrious

The One who is illustrious and honourable; possessing both perfect glory and perfect generosity.

الْوَاحِدُ

Al-Wahid

The One

The One who is single and unique in His Lordship, Names, Attributes, and right to be worshipped. There is nothing like unto Him.

Al-Ahad

The Unique

The One who is uniquely singular: He has no partner, no equal, no son, no father. His oneness is absolute.

As-Samad

The Eternal

The One who is the eternally besought of all needs. All creation is in need of Him; He is in need of nothing. He is the perfect master to whom all turn in need.

Al-Qadir

The All-Powerful

The One who has perfect and complete power over all things. He is able to do anything He wills; there is nothing that is beyond His power.

الْمُقْتَدِرُ

Al-Muqtadir

The All-Determining

The One who exercises His power at all times over all things, with complete and perfect control. His power is enacted and exercised in every moment.

الْمُقَدِّمُ

Al-Muqaddim

The Expediter

The One who puts things or people forward at exactly the right time and place, according to His perfect wisdom.

73

الْمُؤَخِّرُ

Al-Mu'akhkhir

The Delayer

The One who delays things or people to exactly the right time, in perfect accordance with His wisdom and justice.

الْأَوَّلُ

Al-Awwal

The First

The One before whom there is nothing: no beginning preceded His existence. He is the First without any prior beginning.

الْآخِرُ

Al-Akhir

The Last

The One after whom there is nothing: His existence will remain after all else has ended. He is the Last without any ending after Him.

الظَّاهِرُ

Az-Zahir

The Manifest

The One who is manifest through the signs of His existence, power, and perfection that are evident throughout creation. He is evident above all through the testimony of His creation.

الْبَاطِنُ

Al-Batin

The Hidden

The One who is hidden from the sight and perception of creation in His essence. His essence cannot be perceived or comprehended by created beings.

الْوَالِي

Al-Wali

The Governing

The One who governs and administers all of creation with complete authority and perfect management.

79

الْمُتَعَالِي

Al-Muta'ali

The Most Exalted

The One who is exalted above all things in the most perfect and absolute manner. He is far above and beyond all that the human mind can conceive.

الْبَرُّ

Al-Barr

The Source of Goodness

The One who is abundantly and perfectly good to His servants. All true goodness comes from Him and returns to Him.

التَّوَّابُ

At-Tawwab

The Ever-Relenting

The One who constantly accepts repentance from His servants and returns to them with forgiveness. "Tawwab" indicates continuous and repeated acceptance of repentance.

الْمُنْتَقِمُ

Al-Muntaqim

The Avenger

The One who takes retribution from those who persist in wrong and oppression. His vengeance is an expression of His perfect justice.

الْعَفُوُّ

Al-'Afuww

The Pardoner

The One who pardons and obliterates sins, removing them completely as if they never existed. The Prophet ﷺ taught that one should ask: 'O Allah, You are the Pardoner; You love to pardon. So pardon me.'

الرَّءُوفُ

Ar-Ra'uf

The Most Kind

The One who is very kind and clement. This is an even more intensive form of mercy than Ar-Rahim, indicating extraordinary tenderness and gentleness.

مَالِكُ الْمُلْكِ

Maliku'l-Mulk

Master of the Kingdom

The One who possesses absolute sovereignty over all kingdoms and all dominions. He gives sovereignty to whom He wills and withholds it from whom He wills.

ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

Dhul-Jalali wal-Ikram

Lord of Majesty and Generosity

The One who possesses absolute majesty and immeasurable generosity: the Most Majestic and the Most Generous of all.

الْمُقْسِطُ

Al-Muqsit

The Just

The One who executes justice with absolute equity. He deals with all of His creation with complete impartiality and fairness.

الْجَامِعُ

Al-Jami'

The Gatherer

The One who will gather all of creation on the Day of Judgement, and who gathers all of His perfect attributes simultaneously without any contradiction.

الْغَنِيُّ

Al-Ghani

The Self-Sufficient

The One who is absolutely self-sufficient and rich, needing nothing and no one. All creation is in need of Him; He is in need of nothing whatsoever.

الْمُغْنِي

Al-Mughni

The Enricher

The One who makes whoever He wills rich and self-sufficient. He is the source of all true wealth and freedom from need.

الْمَانِعُ

Al-Mani'

The Preventer

The One who withholds and prevents whatever He wills, according to His infinite wisdom. What He prevents is prevented; what He allows comes to pass.

الضَّارُّ

Ad-Darr

The Distresser

The One who creates harm and affliction as He wills, which always serves a greater wisdom: purification, testing, or punishment.

النَّافِعُ

An-Nafi'

The Benefiter

The One who creates all benefit. Every blessing and benefit in creation comes ultimately from Him.

النُّورُ

An-Nur

The Light

The One who is the Light of the heavens and the earth. He illuminates creation both outwardly and inwardly. The Quran and faith are both described as His light.

Al-Hadi

The Guide

The One who guides His servants to truth, to the right path, and to happiness in this world and the next. Guidance belongs to Allah alone.

الْبَدِيعُ

Al-Badi'

The Incomparable

The One who creates without any precedent or model. He is the Originator of things in a way that is unprecedented: 'The Originator of the heavens and the earth.'

الْبَاقِي

Al-Baqi

The Everlasting

The One who is everlasting and eternal, who will remain after all of creation has perished. He has no end, as He has no beginning.

الْوَارِثُ

Al-Warith

The Inheritor

The One who inherits all that exists: after all of creation ceases to be, He alone will remain, and all things will return to Him.

الصَّبُورُ

As-Sabur

The Patient

The One who is immensely patient and does not hasten to punish those who disobey Him. He gives respite and opportunity for repentance before the final reckoning.
