The Quran was revealed over 23 years in two phases: Makki surahs (revealed in Makkah before the Hijra, focused on faith and the soul) and Madani surahs (revealed in Madinah after the Hijra, focused on law and community).
Asbab al-Nuzul (أسباب النزول) is the classical Islamic science of the occasions of revelation: the events, questions, and contexts that prompted specific verses to be sent down.

The Meaning of the Quran
The overall meaning
The Quran is the final revealed Word of God (Allah) to humanity, sent through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ over 23 years. Its core meaning is the call to Tawhid (the absolute Oneness of God), recognition of prophethood, accountability on the Day of Judgement, justice between human beings, and submission of the self to the Creator as the path to inner peace and salvation. It is guidance, mercy, criterion of truth, healing for the heart, and a reminder of humanity's purpose: to know, worship, and obey the One God.
