Morning Remembrance: The Living, the Self-Sustaining

Every morning after Fajr prayer

Abu Dawud

أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

Asbahna wa asbahal-mulku lillah, wal-hamdu lillah, la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir.

Meaning

We have reached the morning, and the dominion belongs to Allah. All praise belongs to Allah. There is no deity except Allah, alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things capable.

Virtue

A comprehensive morning remembrance acknowledging the sovereignty and perfection of Allah.

Evening Remembrance

Every evening after Asr prayer

Abu Dawud

أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

Amsayna wa amsyal-mulku lillah, wal-hamdu lillah, la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir.

Meaning

We have reached the evening, and the dominion belongs to Allah. All praise belongs to Allah. There is no deity except Allah, alone, with no partner. To Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things capable.
