Protection and Ruqyah

Supplications for protection from harm, evil eye, and the whisperings of Shaytan

Ayat al-Kursi (The Verse of the Throne)

After every obligatory prayer and before sleeping

Surah al-Baqarah (2:255)

Transliteration

Meaning

Allah: there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Magnificent.

Virtue

The Prophet ﷺ described it as the greatest verse of the Quran. He said: 'Whoever recites it after every obligatory prayer, there is nothing between him and entering Paradise except death.' And: 'Whoever recites it before sleeping, Allah will appoint a guardian for him and no Shaytan will approach him until morning.'

Morning Supplication for Protection

Recited three times in the morning and three times in the evening

Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi

Transliteration

Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma'as-mihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama', wa huwas-sami'ul-'alim.

Meaning

In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the sky. And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Virtue

The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever says it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity until the evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will not be afflicted by any calamity until the morning.'
