Al-Hashr recounts the expulsion of the Banu Nadir, a Jewish tribe in Madinah who broke their treaty with the Prophet and conspired with the Makkans. Their departure without direct battle is attributed to divine intervention. The surah then details the distribution of war spoils (fay'), warns the hypocrites who promised the Banu Nadir false support, and culminates in one of the Quran's most majestic declarations of Allah's attributes.
أسباب النزول
Revealed in the fourth year after the Hijra following the siege and expulsion of the Banu Nadir. The tribe had plotted to assassinate the Prophet and violated their covenant with the Muslims. Allah cast terror into their hearts and they agreed to leave Madinah, burning their own houses rather than leaving them to the Muslims. The concluding verses (22-24) were described by the Prophet as containing the greatest concentration of Divine names in the Quran.
“O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow.”
A foundational verse of moral accountability – every individual must audit their deeds in light of the Day of Judgement, making self-reckoning (muhasabah) a daily practice.
“He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed.”
The opening of the celebrated triad of verses (22-24) containing a concentrated revelation of the Divine Names, which scholars regard as among the greatest theological passages in the Quran.
