Surah Ibrahim focuses on the mission of prophets to lead their peoples out of darkness into light, using Musa's address to the Israelites and Ibrahim's prayer for the city of Makkah as its central examples. The surah contains the famous parable of the good word being like a good tree with deep roots, and the evil word like an evil tree uprooted from the earth. Ibrahim's prayer for his descendants and for the city he founded is a central passage.
أسباب النزول
Revealed in the late Makkan period when the Prophet and his companions faced severe oppression. Ibrahim's prayer for Makkah and his family was used to connect the Prophet's mission with that of his ancestor. Verses 28-29 were revealed about the leaders of the Quraysh who were killed at the Battle of Badr and whose relatives blamed the Prophet for the destruction of their families.
“And when your Lord proclaimed: If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favour.”
This verse, from Musa's address to the Israelites, establishes gratitude as the mechanism for divine increase. It is one of the foundational Quranic statements on the relationship between shukr (gratitude) and divine abundance.
