Al-Yasa (Elisha) is named in the Quran only twice (al-An'am 6:86 and Sad 38:48) among lists of prophets, without genealogy or narrative detail. No father is named in the Quran or authentic Sunnah. Weak Isra'iliyyat sources give his father's name as Akhtub, corresponding to the Biblical Shaphat (1 Kings 19:16), but this identification is very lightly attested even in classical mufassirs. Al-Yasa is understood in classical tradition as the successor of Ilyas (Elijah) who continued the mission to the Israelite kingdoms. No wife or children of al-Yasa are named in any authentic Islamic source.
Mentioned alongside Ismail, Dhul-Kifl, and Ilyas as among the distinguished ones. He continued the prophetic mission after Ilyas and is regarded as a great Prophet.
