Father of both Musa and Harun. Classical exegesis (Tabari, Ibn Kathir) distinguishes this Imran from the Imran who was the father of Maryam mother of Isa (see Al 'Imran 3:33).

Younger brother. Harun was three years older but Musa was chosen for the primary mission; Musa asked Allah to include Harun as his helper and spokesman (Ta Ha 20:29-32, al-Furqan 25:35). Their partnership is a Quranic model of familial cooperation in the cause of Allah.

Mentioned in the Quran twice (Ta Ha 20:40 and al-Qasas 28:11-12) as the one who followed the basket of the infant Musa along the Nile and arranged for their own mother to be his wet-nurse. Her personal name is not given in the Quran or authentic Sunnah; classical traditions call her Maryam bint Imran, distinct from Maryam the mother of Isa.
A gifted orator who supported Musa's mission. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said to 'Ali ibn Abi Talib: 'You are to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there will be no Prophet after me.' He was the elder brother, and some narrations indicate he died before Musa.
