Al-Qadr celebrates the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr) on which the Quran was first revealed. The surah declares it better than a thousand months, describes the descent of the angels and the Spirit with every divine decree, and characterises the night as peace until the rising of the dawn. Despite its brevity, this surah is one of the most beloved in the tradition, recited constantly during the last ten nights of Ramadan in search of this blessed night.
أسباب النزول
Revealed to explain the significance of the night on which the Quran began its descent. The Prophet stated that Laylat al-Qadr falls within the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan, though its exact date is hidden as a mercy so that believers will devote themselves to worship throughout those nights. Worship on this single night surpasses eighty-three years of continuous worship.
“Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Power. And what can make you know what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.”
The entire theological weight of this surah rests in these three verses: the Quran's origin on this night, the rhetorical wonder at its greatness, and the staggering arithmetic of its reward – over eighty-three years compressed into one night.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever stands in prayer during the Night of Power out of faith and hoping for reward, all of his previous sins will be forgiven." (Bukhari and Muslim)
